The Government of Nigeria will embark on issuing its enhanced 10 -year- validity International passports to Nigerians in London and Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America soon.
The Controller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr Muhammed Babandede, who shared the information at a press conference in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Wednesday, said the process would commence shortly.
He said the intention is to solve a lot of issues related to the renewal of expired passports. Babandede reiterated that the Service is also working on deploying more machines and personnel to Nigeria Foreign Missions to assist in clearing passports’ backlogs for those who had registered.

While acknowledging the impact of COVID-19 on service delivery and productivity, the Comptroller-General revealed that the Nigeria Immigration Service had developed a website for Nigerians with expired passports willing to return to the country to apply and get clearance to board flights and on arrival in Nigeria to get new passports.

Nigerians in such countries can now board aircraft after applying to the Comptroller-General for approval and clearance. As soon as they receive the clearance, they can proceed to the Airport for their onward journey to Nigeria.” He said.

The Airports designated for such arrangements are the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos and Aminu Kano International Airport Kano.
Domestication of the production of passport booklets in Nigeria to address the ongoing challenge of non-availability is currently on the front burner. The Comptroller -General Muhammed Babandede, has been working in collaboration with the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to conclude the process.
