Thanks for the update, my question still remains, can I buy $200.00 money order for expedited service and bring along with my application when embassy open for public.

Hi Kay, Yes, come with the money order. However, if booklets are not available, you would have to go back with the money order.

Hi Susan I was at the Embassy July 18, I understand it takes a maximum of 6 weeks to send out the new Passports. My Work permit is expires 10th of August, and no information on the express post tracking. Any idea when these Passports would be sent through the mail?

My friend booked a flight to get to Ottawa to get his passport renewed just to learn now that it is closed thats ridiculous and unfair what can you do to help him???

    1. Abu SusanSays

I am sorry, But it is not ridiculous. The news has been on the website since Ontario announced the lockdown/stay at home order. We sent out emails to applicants notifying them of the development. We also update our website and social media platforms regularly to share updates with people. We can not do anything about it. We have to obey the law. Your friend should read our news item on the website titled: Update on Immigration. Service to see the alternative solutions provided by IRCC.

It is ridiculous. You were meant to send an email confirming the cancellation of an appointment. This is the normal and professional thing to do.

Dare, We sent out emails. Check your spam mail. It is also safe to also check our website before embarking on your journey to the High Commission. These are challenging times because of the Pandemic.

Nothing is in my spam! I have always received prior communications from the Nigeria High Commission in my inbox. The Commission made me travel from BC to Ottawa just for me to learn the office is closed. Why not put a call across to confirm cancellation? Not everyone stays in Ontario! I got an email confirming my appointment few weeks ago, yet the Commission never sent another mail to inform me of the cancellation. How do I account for the lost time, money and stress of traveling down to Ottawa???

Then you should have called people with confirmed appointments when you discovered emails dropped in spams. More People will still land in Ottawa unawares of this closure if a fresh round of emails is not sent to people with prior appointments. This is the minimum duty of care expected

Tell him to read the following carefully and click the link that applies to his situation. This is the option provided by Canada in the face of the pandemic and lockdown. Update on Immigration Services As a result of the current challenges affecting Immigration services resulting from the 3rd wave of the Coronavirus in Ontario-Canada, the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, is pleased to provide Nigerian citizens in Canada with the following vital information. 1. Temporary residents in Canada whose passports/travel documents are about to or have expired and cannot be renewed due to COVID-19 restrictions are encouraged to apply for an extension or restoration of their status online. 2. More information on applying for an extension can be found @ https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors.html#extend 3. Additional information on applying for restoration is available @ https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/restoration-extension-trv.html 4. Applicants who apply before their status expires will have their status maintained while their application is being processed. 5. Where additional documentation or information is required to decide on an application (such as a valid passport), Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will request the necessary material. However, they may allow the applicant 90days to submit the required documentation. Nigerians with expired Nigerian passports planning to travel back home are allowed to do so, but must: 1. Obtain clearance from their airline of choice about travelling with an expired Nigerian passport. 2. On arrival in Nigeria, such individuals should make deliberate efforts to visit the closest Nigeria Immigration Service passport renewal office to renew their passport before returning to Canada. The Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, will continue to post updates on the website and social media platforms.

Please can the embassy post it on their website that Nigerians can travel back home with their expired passports and then renew it when they get back home as most airlines don't have that information and one may be denied boarding in this respect. If this information is posted publicly on the website, Nigerians can either print it out or otherwise as a proof to the airlines that may want to deny them boarding, thanks for your anticipated response.

I applied for renewal of passport since June 17 of last year. However, due to the COVID restrictions and lockdown I have not been able to make it to Ottawa for the biometric appointment. Is there a time period, during which I have to get this done. A few people have said if I don't get it done after one year, I might have to pay again. However, I cannot verify the authenticity of this claim. How accurate is this? If true, can there be an exception so Nigerians don't have to pay a second time due to COVID?

Nigeria High Commission, you must get with the times and get up to par with today's technology. I fully appreciate you providing intervention experiences across the nation and I think that this is something you ought to do for Nigerians across Canada twice a year in each province. I also think you ought to go to Toronto twice yearly in the same way since Ontario comprises the largest number of Nigerians. Ottawa is a 5 hour drive from Toronto, do you not think you can better serve your brothers and sisters by coming to them twice yearly too? All those who have to travel 2 hours + to get to Toronto? If you have a foreign passport, you need to apply for a visa. You can also apply for an emergency travel certificate to travel with your expired Nigerian Passport. If you opt for the second option, ensure that you renew your Nigerian passport in Nigeria before travelling back to Canada.

Hello, I renewed my Nigerian passport exactly 2 weeks ago at the High Commission in Ottawa and I am yet to receive my passport. When I try to track my passport on the Canada Post website with the tracking number I got off the return envelope, I get the following message "We didn’t find an item associated with this number." I am kind of worried as I am not sure why I am unable to track my passport. As it is right now, I am out of status and need my passport ASAP. I would appreciate it if somebody could get back to me.

I only have the tracking details from the self-addressed envelope which I had to submit after waiting the whole day only to be told the machine broke down (I was refunded for the expedited service I paid tho). Hello, I am writing to verify the processing status of my passport. I am now concerned because the last time (24th of August, 2021) I was at the embassy in Ottawa, my passport was misplaced and later found under a chair. That is just one of the horrible experiences and inhumane treatment I received that day. Anyways, I am not writing to narrate or escalate the full details of my experience just yet. I just want to know the status of my passport. I will also like to express my displeasure with the way the chancery@nigeriahcottawa.ca email is being monitored. You write an email and you don’t get any sort of acknowledgment or response even after month. It’s quite pathetic and rather unfortunate that we are not able to maintain basic customer service etiquettes. Please look into this asap.

I will like to point out that I think the sensitivity of your finger print machine should be looked into as it couldn’t capture my fingerprints for a passport that has been renewed severally and travel the world. I also witnessed it fail other people that tried to capture. I was finally made to provide a medical report but I still don’t know if the officer followed through even after 6weeks without response.

Hello Chijioke, Thanks for your observation and recommendation. We are worried as well.We started experiencing difficulties with the advent of COVID-19; perhaps the facility is reacting to the hand sanitizers? We are working on it.

Thank you very much for getting back to us. As for the status of your passport, our challenge is with passport booklets. We are expecting more booklets from Abuja to take care of all applicants. Please, bear with us. For the email, next time, send your messages to generalinquiries@ngeriahcottawa.ca or passportinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca The chancery email is not for passport inquiries.

Hello Susan, Thanks for your reply. I am very much aware of the passport booklet shortage and I understand you are trying to apply every customer service ethics available here which is very good. Here is an update: After more than 6weeks of submitting my old passport and waiting for a response from the embassy, I decided to call the office yesterday 5th October,2021 and I was informed that the data has been transmitted to Abuja and it’s awaiting a fingerprint bypass approval. I immediately sent someone to Abuja immigration head office (specifically the department in charge of the bypass) and after several minutes of searching, I was told that the details was never sent. Now I need to know the exact time and date the passport details was transmitted to Abuja from Ottawa?. I have sent emails to Those emails you mentioned since over 7days without any form of acknowledgment or reply. Is this how the Ottawa office treat people’s cases? I am waiting for the time and date as requested so I can send it to Abuja. Thanks

Stop deleting comments!!!! Chijioke, I think its a waste of time expecting any credible response from them at this point and just wait it out. They just posted on their Instagram page that only passports renewed before August 16th has been processed. They currently have no more booklets and are awaiting more from Abuja. Despite the fact that Abu Susan had said they received booklets last week Wednesday and August 17 applications will be processed. The reality is that since June to August 16th applicants have just been processed and being despatched then anything from August 17 should wait till November. They will find your biometrics details.

    1. Abu SusanSays

Lea, We do not delete comments here. Instead, we respond to what we see. Secondly, It is wrong to conclude that we just processed those from June -August 16th. The notice you referred to on Instagram is also here. And it says July -August 16th,not June. I do not know where you get your information from, but it is not valid. Yes, booklets came in last week. But do you know how many booklets we got? and the number of applications processed? For those still waiting, please, bear with us. It is pretty challenging for us here too. We will continue to put in our best. Thank you.

      1. LeaSays

I mentioned June because there are people on this forum and another forum that have said they have been awaiting their passport since June. What you should be doing is informing people when the next batch will be sent out. Imagine how the people from August 17 to 20 that didnt make the cut off you posted would feel. Left on on limbo not knowing when the supposed "6 weeks" time frame will be over and if they even have passports available for them and how long new passports will arrive. Give people real information to hold on to so they can plan better! It's too cheap just saying "we have no booklets" when you are given dates of capture to know if their date is being processed or not. If it is to collect bribe to process faster, you will collect. Don't tell me this is wrong because I have phone numbers of people that help facilitate passport faster.

Hello Susan, I am still for a reply to my last chat. Anyways I just got off the phone with the embassy at Ottawa and I was informed that my medical report and application can no longer be found. In order words it is now missing. This is coming after the biometric capture officer misplaced my passport on the 24th August and it was later found under a chair by myself. I was earlier told that my bypass application and details has been sent to Abuja on two occasions but my contacts in Abuja never received it. Now the story from the embassy has suddenly changed after realizing that I contacted Abuja. Is this how cases are being handled for Nigerians who has got no one to confirm for them in Abuja? I want my medical report produced and sent to Abuja asap as I was made to go through a lot of suffering by the officers on that day I visited the embassy. I need a status report please. Thanks
