The Interment for the late Nigeria Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and the six Army officers involved in the Beachcraft 350 aircraft crash in the line of duty in Kaduna State on May 21 took place in Abuja, 1300hrs, Saturday, 22, 2021.
The other Army Officers who perished in the crash include:
- Brig-General Mohammed Idris Abdulkair
- Brig-General Olatunji Lukman Olayinka
- Brig-General Abdulrahman Kuliya
- Major Lawal Aliyu Hayat
- Major Nura Hamza
- Sergent Umar
The members of the crew were:
- Flit. Lt. T.O. Asaniyi
- Flit.-Lt. A.A. Olufade
- Sgt. Adesina
- ACM. Oyedepo
The event commenced from the National Mosque and the National Christian Centre, Abuja, before the National Military Cemetry interment.
Nigeria’s President Muhamadu Buhari Friday, shortly after the unfortunate incident in a statement by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, condoles the families of the deceased, the Military and all Nigerians.
He described the officers as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”
Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru was appointed as Chief of Army Staff on January 26, 2021, by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, has directed that an Accident Investigation Board be constituted to probe the accident.
The directive is part of a statement signed by the Defence Headquarters Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General, Onyema Nwachukwu.
The CDS condoles with all military personnel and families. He assures the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to the Constitution and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
