NHC ADMINISRATIVE FEE!
NHC ADMINISRATIVE FEE!

June 8, 2021BY Abu Susan

The Nigeria High Commission wishes to inform all Nigerians in Canada that the only administrative fee for E-Passport renewal is $50 (CAD).

The mode of payment shall be by money order, payable to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa ONLY.

Passport application and payment are made through the Nigeria Immigration service online via Innovate 1pay.

The other Administration fee is the Expedited Issuance (Same day) service fee of $200, which is not mandatory.  Any additional cost outside of the mentioned is not from the Nigeria High Commission.

Thank you.

Hi There, Are we able to pay the expedited fee via money order as well? I have an appointment scheduled for June 24, can you please advise if that appointment will be honoured or if the new process will take precedent?

BIO, Yes, you can, but we may not be able to honour the same-day delivery now due to the backlog of applicants occasioned by the closure. We want to attend to many people. The expedited service would resume much later when we reduce the number of applicants.

My wife paid for her passport renewal using innovate 1pay and she was charged $106 US DOLLARS. Could you please explain where that is coming from, $50CAD is what you said the administrative fee is.

    1. Abu SusanSays

Hello Mikel, If you read the post all the way to the end, you will see what the $106 USD is for. That is the amount you pay to Immigration for the renewal. The administrative fee of $50 CAD is for the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa.

      1. Felix O.Says

Hi, I also paid $106 USD earlier through innovate 1pay. Does that include the NHC $50 CAD fee? Or it excludes it meaning when i come for my appoint i have to bring a money order for $50CAD too. Also, since i want same day processing, do i bring 1 single money order of $250CAD or 2 money orders one for $200CAD and another for $50CAD. By the way can one pay via credit cards?

        1. Abu SusanSays

Hi Felix, No, the $50 is not included. The $50 money order is payable to the Nigeria High Commission as an administrative fee. The $200 expedited fee can be in the same money order as the $50. However, the service is currently on hold due to the volume of applicants waiting for their biometric capture exercise.

Hello, Please for a family passport renewal, one single money order ($50*number of passport) should be sufficient, right?

    1. Abu SusanSays

Hello Michael, Let us imagine that you are a family of four, you can get single money order of $200, $50 for each.

  6. HossSays

Is the $200 expedited service fee in addition to the $50 if I opted for the expedited option? or will it just be $200? Also, considering there are backlogs of applicants, what is the expected timeframe to get the passport (expedited) if it cant be delivered on the same day? Thanks!

    1. Abu SusanSays

HOSS, The $200 is a stand-alone fee, while the $50 is the mandatory administrative fee. The passport does not come under the expedited category if you do not get it the same day. It means the Mission will be posted as usual. It takes 2-6weeks, all things being equal.

If i pay the 200 dollar expedited fee can i be guaranteed at least a week delivery?

    1. Abu SusanSays

William, The purpose of the $200 expedited fee is for you to get it the same day. But the service is not possible right now due to the high volume of applicants waiting for the biometric capture exercise.

Hi Susan, If i wanted to have the expedited service, is the $200 fee for expedited delivery in addition to the $50 administrative fee? making a total of $250? Also, do you reckon this service will be back by Mid July? I have my appointment scheduled for July 16th and it would be my preference to go the expedited route. Please advise.

  23. SophSays

Hi Abu, I have 2 questions please. Question 1: Since the expedited $200 service is on hold for now, are you trying to say there is no need paying the money. All the commission requires for now is $50, and applicants should wait 2 to 6 weeks to have their passports shipped to them. In essence, paying the $200 will not suffice at this crucial time, yeah??? I'm thinking of bringing a money order of $200 to the commission to get my passport the same day, however from my understanding here, there is no need anymore, since i'ld have to wait 2 to 6 weeks to have my passport shipped to me. Question 2: will the shipping time be shorter for those who pay the $200, even if they can't get it the same day???

    1. StevekinsSays

From Susan’s previous answers I can advise: No need paying for expedited service if your appointment is before 1month from today. Secondly, even if you pay the 200$ within this period, once you can’t get the passport same day, which is the case for now, it falls under normal delivery of 2-6weeks. I would save my money for other expenses 😀

  24. Hi Abu, I hope you are doing great. I just wanted to confirm if the High Commission is now open because there hasn't been any updates posted concerning that, despite the fact that Ontario is now open. Hello Mike, Here is the latest update. Be informed that the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, would reopen to the public on June 23, 2021, following Ontario's stage 1 of the three-step plan to safely and gradually lift public health measures based on ongoing province-wide vaccination progress. However, the Mission would attend to applicants according to a systematic plan in line with COVID-19 Protocols. The first set of applicants would be - 1. Students and workers whose study and work permits have expired. 2. Applicants who cannot renew Permanent residence card due to lack of a valid Nigerian passport. 3. Applicants whose permits would expire in the next three months. Applicants in these categories would receive notice of dates and time to come to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa. Nigerians with appointments scheduled and confirmed before the lockdown from March to April would be next in line. The immigration team would work throughout the week, including weekends, to clear up the backlog. We hope to continue with those scheduled for May and June to get back to our regular calendar. We are here to serve you always. Thank you.

Hi Susan, I have an appointment scheduled for June 29, and I will like to clarify some things regarding this administrative charges. From your previous comment, does it mean that even if I pay the $200 expedited fee, I still wouldn’t get my passport in 2 weeks? Also when making the money order, do I have to do them separately, the $50 and $200?

    1. Abu SusanSays

Ebs, The $200 expedited fee is for you to get your passport on the same day; however, the service is on hold at the moment. No need to get the $200 money order.

Hi Susan, Please would it be possible to travel to Nigeria with my expired Nigerian international passport and have it renewed in Nigeria. Thanks

    1. Abu SusanSays

Hi Alfreda, Yes, you can. All you need to do is to apply for Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC). It does not require physical presence at the High Commission. It also takes a few days to process if you provide the requirement and fees. (See details on the website). Also, remember to inform your preferred airline that you will be travelling with an expired Nigerian passport. You won't have a problem because you are travelling back home.

It depends on what you are applying for. The link for the payment is innovate1pay for a passport. It is there on the website. If it is an administrative fee, you need to get a money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission.

Hi Susan, I applied for passport renewal for my mum and got a date for early July, but she couldn't make the appointment due to a medical emergency/issue. I tried reaching the commission through the phone number listed, but I haven't been able to speak to someone on what to do. Her temporary visa expires next month (September), and her passport will be expiring in October, so I need to renew the passport to enable me to renew her visa. I have checked the next available dates for appointments and it shows November, which will be too late for us. Please, Is there anything that can be done about this situation? I really want to get the passport renewed this month, so I can reapply for her visa extension. Thank you.

Ma, Sorry to hear about your Mum's medical issue. You should have sent a message to let us know about it. The scheduling officer would have asked for another applicant to do an exchange of dates with her. Please send a detailed email to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca; hopefully, she can get another slot.

I made payment in July of $109 through innovate but am confuse now because am reading the only money we are to pay for passport renewal is $50 through money order. please i need clarity on this. if the $50 money order is the only payment how, how do i get a refund for the money paid through innovate.

    1. Abu SusanSays

Hello Nelson, The money you paid through innovate is to Immigration for the passport renewal. You must pay a mandatory CAD 50 administrative fee via money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa. These are two separate payments.

Hi Susan, I am in Toronto and applying to replace a lost passport. I have filled out the standard ePassport application but I was unable pay online because innovate pay rejected my Mastercard. Do I just pay the $50(renewal fee) and the $400 (caution fee) by money order? Thank you for looking into this.

    1. Abu SusanSays

Please, contact your bank before getting back to innovate; perhaps, the bank declined the payment. The $400 caution fee is not for innovate. You have to get it in money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission Ottawa. The 50 dollar money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission is a mandatory application fee on a separate money order. The money you will be paying to Innovate is for your passport, not any of the amounts mentioned above.

When is the passport going to be ready or how can we get those copies in time. We had been told it will take 3 weeks to receive. I would be happy if you could provide a solution

    1. Abu SusanSays

Hello Gabe, It takes 4-6weeks. However, considering your capture date, it may take a week more to produce because of those who did their biometrics before you. But a second option is to pay for expedited delivery, which is $200 per passport.

Hello Abu Susan, My family and I had our appointment/biometrics on August 17. We were told we could have received the passport the same day but the system was down. (We didn't pay or require the one day fee. But according to how things were done previously, passports were issued same day) We are however still awaiting our passports. It has been over 5 weeks now and I know the time frame advised is 4 to 6 weeks, I would like to know if this time frame is still valid as we need our passports to apply for visa urgently without having to pay the 200$ fee as we have waited this long already. Please advise further.

Hello Ceejay, We sincerely apologize for the delay. The 6-week time frame is still valid. The only reason why things have been a bit different is because of passport booklets. We ran out. However, we are expecting booklets from Abuja this week.

Good morning, my name is Oluwaseyi and I will like to ask some questions regarding passport application. I have an appointment scheduled in November for myself and my child and will like to know the correct fees required. I will be doing a change of name due to marriage on my passport and also will want an expedited process. I see on the website that I need to pay the fee for passport renewal $50, change of name fee $100 and same day service of $200 all money order. I will like to confirm that this is separate from the amount I will be paying online with my card for the passport itself. Also my my child who is getting the passport for the first time will she also have to pay $50 separately apart from the money I will pay online. I will really appreciate more clarification to these questions. Thank you

        1. Abu SusanSays

Hello Oluwaseyi, The $50 CAD is a mandatory processing fee for all applications, so yes, $50 for you and $50 for your your child = $100. You can do both on one money order, payable to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa. Change of name is a separate money order still in the name of the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, Canada. What you will be paying online to Immigration is the money for your passport booklet which goes to INNOVATE 1PAY. Same day service is not available, so do not bother to come with the $200 money order.

Please, follow the instructions on the website carefully, On the front page is a red line tagged schedule appointment. Click on it to pick your preferred date. Also details of the amounts you need to pay online are on the website. Expedited processing is $200 cad in money order, payable to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa. There is also a mandatory administrative $50 cad money order fee payable to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa. You have to go to innovate 1 pay on the website to pay the fee for passport renewal on the immigration site here. Come to the Mission on the date with all your documents and the money order.

Dropping your old passport does not mean, the Mission will keep it. We need it to cancel the data page and then mail back both old and new to you. Cancelling the old data page does not affect the visa on the old passport. All you need to do is -attach the old to the new when traveling.

  93. Abu SusanSays

Thanks Jay, You can only renew your passport a year to the expiry date. The 10 year passport will be available in Canada as soon as a critical mass of Nigerians in Canada enroll for the National Identification Number (NIN). It is a requirement for the 10year passport. Check the home page on the website for details of active vendors in various provinces across Canada to register if you have not done so.
