I still haven't received an appointment date from the embassy considering I am classified as an urgent case application. I need this passport renewal done for my study permit which has expired and I'm currently in school.

Hi, I have sent 3 emails over the past 2 weeks but haven't received any reply. I made an appointment for May 31st to renew my passport which expired early this year. Obviously that didn't happen due to your closure. I made another appointment on July 19th. Do I need a re-confirmation? Is there an issue with me coming on that date? Since I need to take time off work and make travel arrangements, I need some lead time. Please can you let me know. Obi.

Obi, there is no problem. Your date is still valid. If otherwise, we will get in touch.

Hello, I have emailed the general inquires and gotten a new date to come in however the email stated I should bring a copy of the expired permit I had sent to you by email. I did not send any expired copies to you. What I said was that my passport is expiring within the next three months so I am considered part of the urgent situations in the "NOTICE OF RESUMPTION" post. Will this cause a problem when I get to the commission?

    1. Abu SusanSays

Sinclair, There is no problem; I guess they meant a screenshot or photocopy of the data page of the expired passport to be sure if you qualify for the urgent category.

Hi Susan, I have an appointment for July 19th, 2021. Considering all that is happening at the NHC, is my appointment still valid? Also, would I be out of place to make travel reservations for July 19th? Thanks

I had informed the NHC of my situation as an international student in the middle of a study permit renewal, but also explained to them that I had already submitted my documents in an intervention and just need my passport sent in good time. Yet they still sent me an appointment date when I don't have the documents they want with me. How am I to respond to that?

I'm holidaying in Ottawa by first week in August and want to use that time to renew my passport. Does it make sense making fresh application for passport renewal now? Will I likely get confirmed appointment between August 3-5 if I apply now? My case is not very urgent.

NOTICE FOR APPLICANTS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE. The Nigeria High Commission is working on a new schedule for all applicants with appointments for June. Please, send an email to. generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca If you still have challenges with your appointment dates for May or previous months earlier than June, send a message to the email address above. For those who have appointments in July upwards, your appointment dates are still valid. The immigration team is already clearing up the backlog. Anyone who shows up at the Nigeria High Commission without an appointment would not be allowed into the building. Good Afternoon. I recently paid to have my passport renewed as it will be expiring in the next three months. Would it be possible to get an earlier date as I qualify for the urgent cases and if so, how can I go about that?

Hi Abu, Please I have a passport renewal appointment on September 3rd, 2021. However, I just received a notification now that my flight itenary has been changed by the airline, which means that I would not be able to get to Ottawa until 1pm. Please will I still be allowed into the building if I get there by 1pm? These are uncertain times, I am hoping that the high commission can be gracious to us and accommodate this delay. Thank you.

Hello Abu Susan, Trust you are doing well. I was hoping you could help clarify the immigration's policy with the 6 months validity passport rule. I will be reaching out to the airline too but I want to know whether I will have an issue with the Immigration System entering into the country and leaving. My current passport expires first week of February 2022. I plan on using my current passport to travel down to Nigeria and then come back to Canada (September/October). Will the Nigeria Immigration System allow me out of the country when my passport is about to expire in 3 months? My status in Canada is a Permanent Resident of Canada. I want to renew my passport but the earliest available time for an interview based on the information on the website is November 2021. Please let me know if I will have no problem with the immigration officer with 3 months validity. Thank you.

    1. Abu SusanSays

Hello Rukayat, I am doing well. Thank you for asking. You should not have any problem returning to Canada since you are a Permanent Resident. However, try to renew your Nigerian Passport when you get home, but if you can't, if the immigration officers at the airport in Nigeria ask you, let them know you intend to renew your passport at the High Commission in Canada when you return. But from my investigation, you have no problem getting back to Canada.

How long does it take to send a passport? I am disappointed. Also, I have exams that I need my passport for. I sent an email to explain and this was the reply I received: Once your passport is ready it will be mailed to you. Best regards Nigeria High Commission Metcalfe I am telling you I am moving. Do better. Represent Nigerians and care about our wellbeing.

Thanks for your email Chinwe, I understand that you are not happy, but I think it would have been better to ask why you are yet to receive your passport. We are still expecting passport booklets from Nigeria. The passports will be produced and mailed to all applicants that have completed the biometric exercise when we get them.

I see many comments about the need to indeed prioritize the "urgent cases". Your laudable efforts of booking early appointments for this group would go to waste if the passports do not get to their owners on time. We implore you to focus your attention on getting this to happen. We can only "work" on our status as temporary residents in Canada when we get our passports, going out-of-status complicates a lot of things for us, it has many far reaching effects, so if you can and we do know your can because your office has the capacity to produce passports on the same day as appointments, kindly focus on getting these passports processed and in the hands of their owners as soon as possible. Thank you.

Well said Folake. They can also see the expiry on everyone passport and work accordingly.

How long does it take to receive booklets from Nigerian or process passports. We at least knew we were running low on booklets . People are missing out on opportunities and experiencing a lot of stress from this delay. I think we can do a lot better and care a little more.

    1. Abu SusanSays

Temi, It is not about how long it takes to receive booklets from Nigeria. It is about availability.

      1. FolakeSays

Hello again, just to manage our expectations are you saying that there are still no booklets available? My study permit expires next month and as per IRCC regulations I need to apply for a renewal 30 days before expiry. I am honestly just trying to stay as calm as possible but this is getting stressful, my whole family is here on the basis of my status. I do not want to be a fugitive in another country!!! I realize this may seem like an exaggeration to you but to me, that is just how I feel, this is making me anxious. Would you consider issuing letters to IRCC on our behalves, stating clearly that all this is through no fault of ours? Diplomatically, I am sure there must be other ways to help make this easier on us, please explore this, especially if you cannot guarantee that passports would be dispatched soon and will get to us on time.

    1. DamilolaSays

Okay, so I looked now and I don't have an appointment yet. I mixed it up. That was just the calendar date available. How do I get an earlier date? Also the website says payment via money order only, but during my application it only opened the credit/debit card payment page. Do I go ahead with this?

      1. Abu SusanSays

The money order is for the expedited $200 CAD fee (same day delivery) which is optional. The mandatory administrative fee of $50 CAD is also via money order. You have to use your credit card for the payment for a passport at innovate 1pay. All these are clearly stated on the website.

    2. Abu SusanSays

Damilola, I guess you applied too close to the expiration date on your passport. Others who applied earlier picked earlier dates. Send an email with a detailed explanation to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca our officer may find a space somewhere earlier for you if some people cancel their appointments.

@ Abu Susan..thanks for all your help! This is directed to "the powers that be".. has anyone actually reviewed the cost involved with passport renewals; let's do the math: 1. Application fee USD 106 (equivalent CAD 133) 2. Administration fee CAD 50 3. Same Day Service CAD 200 (optional, but regular delivery 4 -6 weeks...tbh the only reason anyone renews passport in Canada is for some good reason..not just for keeps) 4. Travel expenses approx CAD150.. adjust for family size, location and means of transportation. 5. Hotel approx. CAD 190 @ min CAD 60/night for 2 nights, add taxes estimates 6. Money order fees CAD 7:50 x 2, if you do same day on the side, in case booklets are available 7. Envelope CAD10 or more depending on the one you get..which doesn't even mean you get passport timely. Total: CAD540.50 (single applicant no same day service) CAD748 (single applicant with same day service) Note: amounts stated are at best a minimum of actually cost currently, excluding taxes. While some people are lucky to not have the cost involved with transportation and accommodation, most people aren't. I dont see why admin fee is not covered under application fee or same day service fee, why do we incur additional cost obtaining a money order in order to pay admin fee. I am aware these expenses involved is none of the commission's business..but this commission exists for us (Nigerians in Canada) It is well.

I am very disappointed in my treatment from the Nigerian embassy here. As a student in Ontario in need of valid documents to apply for his internship and university courses, i have been overlooked several times. I had 2 appointments scheduled for April and may which got canceled. I mailed multiple times for a reschedule but never got a mail back. I luckily found an appointment for first week of July and did my biometrics. Deadline for my applications are in 2 days and i have still got nothing on my tracking number. The expenses I've made trying to get this done so i dont loose my shot at a future in this country all seem futile now. I hope one day the higher authorities will understand the dire situations they are putting Nigerians in and come to our aid. God will help us all.

Hello Abu, We applied for passport renewal on June 21 and have still not received them as at today. Now IRCC is requesting the passports. I have requested updates on the status on multiple occasions, but always got told that they're being processed, to have patience. This application was supposed to be an urgent case requiring priority attention, for which documentary proofs were submitted to NHC via general inquiries email. Our appointments for May 21 got cancelled due to your covid closure. We requested an appointment for June 29th when NHC reached out, having received our proofs of urgency, but never ever got a confirmation of the date in-spite of repeated followups, and so couldn't make flight bookings. With no dates set for high commission re-opening, and your specific advise that 'same-day passport service' would be not be available upon NHC's re-opening, we decided to attend the Calgary intervention (June 18-21) to get our biometrics and application across to NHC. Shortly after that, we promptly advised via general inquiries of the same, re-iterating the urgency of our situation, with a request to extract out package for urgent treatment rather than sequential processing as part the Calgary bunch, since we had previously establish the urgent nature with the high commission. To date we have no explanation for the delays, no express acknowledgement that package has or will be extracted for urgent priority processing, and no current status information. It would really be unfortunate if IRCC were to reject an application based on inability to provide the Nigerian Passport as requested. Could you please escalate this and also provide me with a point of contact in the passport office so I can follow this matter up to the desired end. I need a solution urgently. Much thanks for your prompt assistance..

Hello, I had an appointment booked for the week of July 16 but was informed on this site not to come for that appointment as the focus was going to be on those who had no other passports besides their Nigerian passport. I was informed at that time that the high commission would be rescheduling appointments for others like me whose cases were not urgent. Since then I have not received any correspondence regarding the rescheduled date for my passport renewal appointment. Please can you let me know how and when those who fall into my category would be rescheduled for our appointments. Alternatively, do I need to reapply for a another appointment date rather than waiting to be rescheduled?
