Nigerian music maestro, Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi, also known as Sound Sultan, has been laid to rest in New Jersey, United States of America, under Islamic injunction. In a statement signed by his relation, Dr Kayode Fasasi, the Sound Sultan, died on Sunday, July 11, after a severe battle with Angioimmunoblastic T cell Lymphoma. Sound Sultan became famous in 2000 with the release of his first single, “Jagbajantis.”
He was a pacesetter in Nigeria’s modern hip hop music scene, a songwriter, rapper, recording artist, and comedian. Sound Sultan’s songs speak truth to power and mirror society to change negative narratives. He is survived by his wife, three children and siblings.
Sound Sultan lives with us in memory and will always be. Rest in Peace.
