The Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, will resume the passport intervention exercise across Canada in March 2022.
The High Commissioner, H.E. Adeyinka Asekun, gave the information in a video message from the Chancery’s communication series- “The High Commissioner’s Desk.” For details of this and more, watch the video clip.
GeorgeSays
What exactly is a passport intervention? What services are offered during an intervention?
Abu SusanSays
Same service as the one you get when you have to travel from where you stay to Ottawa for renewal. In the case of intervention, the Mission moves to provinces far from Ottawa to alleviate the plight of applicants who have to spend money on tickets and accommodation to renew their passports. Hence the word intervention!
SanyaSays
Are we going to be forced to become members of a Nigerian association before we can renew in our different provinces?
Abu SusanSays
NO!!! WE TOLD THE NCA NOT TO FORCE ANYONE TO JOIN THE ASSOCIATION BECAUSE OF THE INTERVENTION PROGRAM. THE REGISTRATION FOR PASSPORT INTERVENTION IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF THE ASSOCIATION.
DaphneSays
Do we need to go through an association to get our passport renewed? In Atlantic Canada, we are being asked to pay membership fees and the fees being stated differs for members and non-members
Abu SusanSays
Hello Daphne, Thank you for the information. 1. We engage the Association to facilitate proper coordination. 2. NO! You do not have to pay membership fees to register for the intervention exercise. The High Commissioner, H.E. Adeyinka Asekun, made that clear in his brief to the NCA Executives.
MonisolaSays
I need to renew my passport and i live in Toronto. Does passport intervention means it is coming to Toronto? Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
Please, apply online and come to Ottawa. The Intervention exercise is for those who reside far from Ottawa, especially those who need to fly for hours to get to Ottawa.

AderonkeSays
Hello, my family(6) already have an appointment in Ottawa for passport renewal. I just want to find out if we have to buy money order for the Administrave fee and self addressed envelope individually or just 1 money order and big addressed envelope for the family. Thank you
Abu SusanSays
Buy one money order of $300 for all. Buy separate envelopes for each applicant.
SamuelSays
My question is on the invitation letter for the interview where do I get this from? Is it the email i get that doubles as the invitation? Also is express service for passport renewal available?
Abu SusanSays
Yes. It is the email you got after you scheduled your appointment. Express service is not available at the moment. The service is subject to the availability of booklets.
KemiSays
Hello, Please when is the "Passport Intervention Program coming to Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta. Is there a procedure guide for this please? If so, please share, thanks
Abu SusanSays
We have not started. When we do, we will post the details on our website. However, we are not coming to Edmonton or Calgary anytime soon. We were there last year. We need to reach the other provinces we could not get to the previous year before returning to the ones you mentioned.
KemiSays
Thanks for your response. Could you please provide the guidelines and timeline for obtaining an ETC? Thanks
OlayinkaSays
Hello please i have a few question. 1) I live in St Johns, Newfoundland and I applied to renew my passport in ottawa. my WORK PERMIT issued to me was reduced due to the validity on my passport. it will expire by April 12 and i must apply for renewal 30 days before expiry date. I have an appointment on the 11th of February, please i am begging if i would be able to get my passport that same day so that i can renew my work permit? if i do not get it, i moght be out of status here. 2) Hoe do i get to set up the money order, i really dont know how this works. please do ypou accept debit card payment?
Abu SusanSays
1. You should have applied early to avoid last-minute stress. The Nigeria Immigration policy says you can apply for renewal a year before the expiry date if you are in Diaspora 2. You can get your passport same day if we have booklets 3. Go to your bank and buy a $50 money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission Ottawa name- That is the mandatory non-refundable administrative fee. 4. You can also buy a $200 money order in the name of the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, as payment for same-day service- this one is optional. You can take your money order back to the bank to claim it if same-day service is not available on your date of capture.
OlayinkaSays
I know you guys are coming to Atlantic canada soon. i live in newfoundland. so can i know the first Atlantic canda you are going to visit in March and will passport issuance be immediate
Abu SusanSays
Wait for our news update on that. And we do not produce passport on location. We only come to capture and return to Ottawa to produce and mail back to you.
SamuelSays
I purchased the money order for my mother and wife so the money order has my name in it as the purchaser, is this okay?
Yewande FasholaSays
Hi there, Are there any plans for the Passport intervention program to come to British Columbia this year?
Abu SusanSays
Please wait for our tentative timetable on our news update concerning passport interventions to see when we plan to visit BC.
Deji A-OniSays
Hi, there is a notice to contact the embassy before beginning an application or making payment for passport renewal .Just to confirm, is this still the current situation. Thanks Deji
Abu SusanSays
No, we do not have any notice Deji. So go ahead and apply, pick a date and come to Ottawa for renewal. If you run into challenges during the application process, send me a message or email generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca
Abiodun AkinboroSays
By every standard your excellency, you have improved the services and image of our embassy. I was there in 2013 and I was there recently. I am happy this happened in my lifetime as I was on the verge of losing hope in anything Nigerian. Thank you for the good work that your team is doing sir.
Abu SusanSays
Thank you for getting back to us, Mr Akinboro. We will send your message to His Excellency, Adeyinka Asekun.
Uche NSays
When will the passport intervention come to Edmonton?
Abu SusanSays
You will see the date when the timetable is ready. If your case is urgent, please, apply and come to Ottawa for renewal.
Irebowale SoyinkaSays
Good morning, I was wondering when exactly the timetable for the passport intervention will be out, and is there a chance you’ll be coming to BC…or should I just book my appointment at Ottawa, cause I’m a student, my passport expires in August.
Abu SusanSays
We are still working on the timetable to ensure a hitch free exercise. Please if you are in BC, book your appointment and come to Ottawa for capture.
RemialagSays
We have many Nigerians in Lethbridge, Alberta. When coming to Alberta can you visit this city? The High Commission should rotate cities across a province instead of going to the same city. That is what we call intervention, not just going to Calgary and Edmonton.
Abu SusanSays
Some Nigerian Canadian Association executives are in touch with the High Commission to share information about their communities. They also write to the Mission about their locations and the number of applicants needing Passport intervention. Finally, write to the Chancery, informing the Mission about your location and Nigerians living in the area. Are you collaborating with the other NCAs in your province to get information about collaboration for the intervention exercise? Please, ask questions rather than arriving at a conclusion that may not be right.
GodswillSays
Hi there, During the period of the pandemic was when my passport expired and I have had difficulties traveling to Ottawa, I have sent emails to the general inquires and haven't gotten a response, I do know you have loads of work and thank you for all your efforts, please is there any chance you will be coming to Winnipeg?
Abu SusanSays
Not anytime soon.
AtilehinSays
Many thanks to Amb. Asekun and the High Commission staff for the work all are doing on passport renewals. I understand an intervention is planned soon for Alberta. As I need to travel in July, I was wondering whether by then, the intervention would have taken place, and I would have received my new passport?
Abu SusanSays
Thanks, Atilehin, Please, apply and come to Ottawa to renew your passport. The intervention team will start the second phase of the exercise by visiting the provinces we could not reach in the first phase before getting back to those we saw last year. Recall that Calgary was the last location on our list last year, and we captured over a thousand applicants there.
AtilehinSays
I would like to ask what the cost of the new 10-year validity passport is, and in line with the High Commissioner's recent statement, when issuance in Canada will commence? Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
I hope you listened to the entire message from the High Commissioner? Issuance can only commence if we all register to get the NIN. At least 90% of Nigerians in Canada.
AtilehinSays
Thank you for your reply. I listened again to the High Commissioner's message and there was no reference there to the ratio of Nigerians needing to be NIN registered before issuance of the 10-year validity passport can commence. What the High Commissioner said is that issuance has commenced in the UK, with New York and Canada hopefully being next. If this is the target, it's important for the High Commission to launch a more intensive awareness campaign on this. Fortunately I'll be relocating to the UK soon, and I'll prefer to apply for the new 10-year validity passport there.
Abu SusanSays
Hello Atilehin, The advocacy drive has been going on for a while. This is not the first time. Perhaps this is the first you have seen. Many Nigerians in Canada are responding. We are making progress. Good luck with your relocation to the UK.
Olaseni OshoSays
Good work Abu Susan. Good and prompt responses. I think the intervention program is also a good initiative. I believe that demand should drive the frequency of visits to locations to cater for majority of folks in need. We can also batch proximal locations together Finally, pending when restrictions are lifted and movement is free, we may explore the use of virtual communication tools like zoom for Ambassador/Community intercation sessions. Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
Thank you, Olaseni, I will share your thoughts with the High Commissioner, H.E. Adeyinka Asekun. We have commenced zoom communication with Nigerians across the provinces. The first in the series is with the Executives of the Nigerian Canadian Association across Canada.
KehindeSays
Quick question, my passport expires in March. I am not able to find the online form to fill. Can I wait for them to come to Winnipeg or do I come to Ottawa. Also, where can I find the forms to fill?
Abu SusanSays
Go on the home page, click on Citizens-Services, and then the E-passport. You will find the online form there. Fill it out, provide all the requirements and come to Ottawa to renew your passport if you need it urgently.
JideSays
The essence of the passport intervention is great but it is cyclical in nature. If I miss my province's intervention, I must still travel to Ottawa. Has the high commission thought of using service centers to simplify and decentralize this portion of the passport renewal process? Partner with Canada Post or Purolator and the likes to have special centers in cities/clusters. They already have the facilities in their network and can help decentralize the "information supply chain".Applicants still do all the online tasks and book appointments in the service center nearest to them through the Nigeria High Commission portal eliminating and controlling walk-ins at the service centers. It may cost a little more to applicants but if you take a poll, many people will rather spend a few CAD$ more for convenient processing than have to make the often costly travel to Ottawa. First time ever passport applicants and other special cases will still need to travel.to Ottawa.
Abu SusanSays
Thank you, Jide. However, you left out the aspect of biometric capture, which is why applicants travel to Ottawa. So Canada Post should do the assignment for Nigeria, too? Please, kindly share your thoughts with the Nigeria Immigration Services. See their details below. +234-802-1819-988 Nis.servicom@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng
JideSays
Hello Susan, It was just a suggestion even if it feels/sounds hare brained to the high commission. The biometric capture is not a sacred task that cannot be simplified. At the end, we are just proposing likely ways to be more efficient. It's not a must to be accepted and the high commission does not have to be snide about it. Best wishes.

The biometric capture can be done by VFS in various towns and cities. Besides biometrics should at least be valid for 10 years so no point running up and down to get biometrics done every 5 years. If still not satisfied then VFS should be the way to go
Abu SusanSays
Please, send your suggestions to the Nigeria Immigration Service Abuja. Thank you.
AkeemSays
Hello Susan, please can you help to share any names of close - by hotels to the embassy with very reasonable cost? Thanks.
Abu SusanSays
Hello Akeem, Please go to google to help yourself with the information.
AkeemSays
Thank you Susan, am doing that already. Please i also need to ask, if the truckers protest going on in down town Ottawa is not affecting operations of the embassy and not hampering movement to the location as well? Thank you.

FRAUDULENT ACT !!! PASSPORT INTERVENTION EDMONTON ALBERTA. 1. PAY US$106 RENEWAL FEES TO THE NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE. 2. PAY CAD$50 ADMINISTRATION FEES TO NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION IN OTTAWA. 3. PAY ADMINISTRATION FEES TO THE NIGERIAN CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF EDMONTON (NCAE) VIA EMAIL MONEY TRANSFER. MEMBERS CAD$200 NON MEMBERS CAD$300 I was reading through some of the questions and answers relating to this passport intervention exercise, someone did asked if the various Nigerian Canadian Associations are supposed to collect fees from Nigerians in their various cities?. The answer was NO, and that the HIGH COMMISSIONER has instructed them not to do so. My question now is, why is the Nigerian Canadian Association in Edmonton, Alberta collecting these huge administration fees?. Taking into consideration the current situation with the pandemic it is unacceptable and unfair for them to do that. Please the NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION should look into this with a matter of urgency.
Abu SusanSays
Hello Nosakhare, Thank you for posting this information. To cut a long story short, We are not coming to Edmonton in March. We are not aware of this development. However, we will investigate.
MosesSays
Hi, Please do you have any dates for the march passport intervention ? Is there any march dates for western Canada (Manitoba-Saskatchewan-Alberta) ?
Abu SusanSays
We are currently focused on Atlantic Provinces. We will get to the others much later. Recall that we visited- Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Calgary last year for the first phase of the exercise. Atlantic Canada is now on our scale of preference. Regina and some parts of Ontario would be next in line before those we visited earlier. Watch the High Commissioner's broadcast on Interventions for 2022. https://youtu.be/AUIvLyIlhBM We will release the details as we progress. So watch this space and all our social media platforms.
AmakaSays
Hello, please i can,t find the time table on the website on when passport intervention will be coming to new brunswick. I need to get Nigerian passport for my kids. thank you
Abu SusanSays
We are done with New Brunswick. The Information was posted on our News update section and social media platforms before the exercise. It took place on February 27th-March 2nd. The NCA also shared via their social media platforms and mailing list for those who are members of the Association.
