After a successful biometric exercise for 277 passport applicants in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the Nigeria High Commission’s passport intervention delegation has proceeded to Fredericton, New Brunswick.
The President of the Nigerian Canadian Association, New Brunswick, Adebayo Ogunleye, says Nigerians in the province are pleased about the opportunity and excited that the High Commissioner, H.E. Adeyinka Asekun, is in Fredericton for the exercise.
While in the Province, High Commissioner Asekun will engage the Mayor of Fredericton, Kate Roger, the Mayor of Saint John, Donna Reardon and a B2B meeting with Krista Ross, the Chief Executive Officer of Fredericton Chamber of Commerce.
The High Commissioner will also meet with Representatives of Nigerian professional bodies and other groups in Saint John and Representatives of professional bodies and prominent Nigerians in Fredericton.

Dear Sir /Madam, Please I scheduled an appointment on the 16th of March for my passport renewal, however I just received an email from the Embassy that the appointment has been cancelled. Upon checking the earliest appointment available now is the 5th of April, which I have booked. Please I need an earlier appointment date or the date I booked previously so my passport renewal process can commence earlier because I need to apply for my student permit extension as soon as possible. Please can you help me out here. Thank you very much.
Abu SusanSays
Please send a request to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca
OluwaseyiSays
Thank you. I have sent the email and waiting for a favorable response.

Hello, I recently just got an email on your upcoming passport intervention in Edmonton. I am at a miss regarding the administrative fees the association is charging. They are charging $200 for members of the association who are applying for a passport and $300 for non-members who are applying. This payment is through email money transfer to the association’s account. Is the embassy aware of these charges and approve said charges? Even after the passport renewal fees have been paid and the money order raised in honour of the Nigerian High Commission Ottawa there is this additional charge, this is no longer an intervention but a complete ripoff. Is the embassy in agreement with these charges by the association? I was under the understanding that the association shouldn’t be charging fees for the intervention hence my shock seeing these “administrative fees” from the association in Edmonton.
Abu SusanSays
Frank, for starters, We did not post any news about passport intervention in Edmonton; FAKE NEWS!!! Whoever posted it is not working in collaboration with the Nigeria High Commission Ottawa. Always check the news update on our website and social media platforms. So far, we have posted about intervention to Halifax, Nova Scotia and Fredericton, New Brunswick, which we just concluded. We are yet to post any updates about our following location. And if we do, it will not be Edmonton.
TolaSays
Thank you for the reply. But I called the High Commission general inquiry number for questions about the intervention and was told that the commission is not in charge of the intervention and that it is the so-called associations. So what has changed? Why should the association be charging if the High Commission is in charge?
Abu SusanSays
Who said that to you? Watch out for our next news update.
FrankSays
Hello Susan, Well I don’t know best on how to respond to your fake news claim but here is the link to the intervention as posted on the association’s website. https://ncaedm.com/edm-passport-2022/ It is imperative that the High Commission reacts to this development since you claim it is fake. Therefore a crime is being committed with the use of the High Commission’s name in an unauthorized act. Please see to it that you protect innocent Nigerians from failing into the “fake intervention” as you call it.
Abu SusanSays
Frank, Here is the response to your inquiries. https://youtu.be/AUIvLyIlhBM You can check our latest video on the news update column on the website to hear from the High Commissioner, Adeyinka Asekun. The High Commissioner of Nigeria to Canada, H.E., Adeyinka Asekun, has advised all Nigerians across Canadian provinces to be mindful of information about the passport intervention exercise contrary to the updates of the High Commission. In a video from the Communication series- "The High Commissioner's Desk," Asekun said applicants should not pay attention or part with money to any Association posting notice of intervention contrary to what is on the Mission's website. Watch the video for details of his message.
FrankSays
Hello Susan, Thanks for your reply. If that’s the case what is the high commissioner doing about such associations who clear contravene the words of the High commissioner on this issue?
ObinnaSays
Good Day Susan, Hope you are doing fine I came in for my renewal on Friday march 4th but was told that I could not get the same day service due to lack of booklets. I have a flight already booked for the 31st of march and I was hoping to get my passport soon. Is there a way I can come in again to pay for the same day service in order to pick up my passport when booklets become available? as its really urgent. Regards, Obinna
Abu SusanSays
I am doing well, Obinna, Yes, you can, but we have not received booklets from Abuja.
ObinnaSays
Hi is there a way I be contacted when they come in ? So that I can make adequate arrangements to come because I won’t even be able to book an appointment. Is there a way I can be notified? Or can I message you personally. I am just worried because of the backlog from January
Abu SusanSays
Send a message to our Instagram next Tuesday to find out.
ObinnaSays
Thank you again you have been really helpful
Abu SusanSays

Hi Susan, I came in for Passport renewal on the 3rd of February but I haven't received the new passport yet - please what's the update?
Abu SusanSays
It takes 4-6weeks to renew. However, it has taken a bit longer because booklets are yet to arrive from Abuja.
SegunSays
Greetings. For those who had their biometrics and pictures taken last week, how long should they expect the processing of their new passport will take? This I believe will help with planning any trip ? In addition, what are the probable timelines for passport renewals from biometric capture to receiving of new passport, this will help to manage expectations and planning? Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
Hello Segun, We do not know when the booklets will come. However, if you came for capture last week, give yourself 6weeks. It takes 4-6weeks to process the passports. If booklets come in, we will take care of the backlog for the last days of January and the month of February. Then we can attend to applicants for the month of March.
SegunSays
Thank you for your prompt response. I am wondering if I can get the emergency travel documents to enable my daughter and I to travel.to Nigeria? I am supposing that this will not require coming to the High Commission? Thanks.
SegunSays
Hello Susan, With the booklets not available and backlogs as far back as January, that's quite a stretch. If I apply for visa on Canadian passport, do I or a minor child need to appear at the High Commission? With our old Nigerian passports currently with your office, what documents do I include in place of the Nigerian passports, if I am to apply for visa on Canadian passport? Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
You do not need to come to Ottawa. Please visit the VFS Global website for details of the requirements. You can write the Mission to withdraw your passport and return it for processing after your trip.
OLUWASEUNSays
Hello Susan, for a passport renewal as well as a name change due to marriage, what is the cost and which form do i fill as i'm a bit confused.
Abu SusanSays
The information is on the website! So, please, applicants should read all information posted on the website carefully. Then, fill out the form for passport renewal but use the name you want to see on your new passport.
