We do not have booklets; that is why you have not received your passport. As you can see from our last update, we stopped production on February 17. We will continue from there when we receive booklets. You can ask your questions, and I will try to provide answers.

When do you anticipate receiving booklets? It is not enough to simply say "we do not have booklets". As a service provider, you should provide your clients with more concrete information. This will assist them with planning, and help set the right expectation. It will also uphold you as credible and dependable. Don't be shy to say "we don't know when booklets will arrive". Truth, however painful, will always be appreciated in the end.

The challenge with booklets started late last year. However, the policy about early application for renewal has been there for a very long time. It is to ensure that people do not go into panic mode when there are delays. We at the High Commission do not produce booklets and have no control over when they get to us. Please do your research well. For the record, we do not print booklets in Ottawa. And it is unfortunate to read from a Nigerian that we are just sitting, doing nothing. Please go through the news updates on the website to get informed. You can also contact the Nigerian Immigration Service to know if the printing of a Nigerian passport is "literally paper." Also, ask them to go to a printing press to print it.

A quick Qsn for you! contrary to what is on the website regarding booking appointments, There are 2 ways by which apointment can be booked. first is to go to the home page and elect to schedule an appointment where you are provided with available days with the option to select one and get an email sent to you. Your daughter's passport may be ready depending on the date you came for capture, as you did not state it here. However, a name change takes up to three months because approval comes from Abuja. So depending on your date of capture, yours may still be pending.

Apply for an Emergency Travel Certificate. However, you will need a valid document to get back to Canada. If you are a Canadian Citizen, good. Because the Emergency certificate only covers your trip to Nigeria.

Hello, I’m hoping I get a response here finally. The phone never works, no one ever answers the phone. The voicemail sounds like someone else’s and no one responds to emails. I am contacting you because I desperately need an update. I haven’t received my passport and it’s 2 months now. I had my interview on Jan 31, 2022. I had to take my old passport back with me because I had to travel urgently. I was advised to send it back once I returned with a letter enclosed that explained why I took it back with me. I sent the passport back on Feb 16, 2022 and the tracking number shows that it was delivered to the Nigerian high commission office. I was told that it typically takes 4-6 weeks. I keep trying to track it but it keeps saying there’s no item associated with the tracking number meaning it has not been sent out yet. I have tried calling the office but no one ever answers the phone and it goes to a strange voicemail. One time, someone answered the phone and promised to contact me with the status of my renewal by the end of the day but never heard back. Please if possible, kindly advise on the status of my passport renewal as I have an urgent trip coming up. With the booklet issues, my new passport would have been ready before that issue started based on your responses above. You just need to find my old passport and send it back with the new one. Stella, I think you need to contact Abuja yourself, I doubt if the High Commission is doing anything about your passports. I contacted Abuja, within 12hours my email was replied. Susan said here there is no booklets but there was a release some passports dispatched. It shows inconsistency in the part of the High Commission. Maybe we with similar problem that our case is forwarded to Abuja should form a forum, so we can write to interior minister and senate. This our High Commission that is unreachable I don’t if they are doing anything about our case. It is impossible for Abuja not to reply them for more than 3 months.

Hello Mrs Susan, I'm not sure what to do here, my daughter (5)'s status expires on the 17th of May and we need to submit an extension request before then. We would've done this earlier but I had no idea same day service was cancelled. I stumbled upon the trail of communication here and realized how deep our inefficiency is as Nigerians. My family and I applied for renewal and first time issue for my son since February 18, 2022 and I have called and sent emails numerous times but no response. How do you sit comfortably in there knowing there are people seeking answers. If truly there are no booklets, will it kill you to send an email or text message to notify all applicants of the situation and when to expect result. This we know will not cost you any large fees but because you simply do not care or feel you are doing us a favour, you expect us to be silent and wait without explanation. One would think the passport office in Canada gives better service but no, the same attitude follows from Nigeria. Too sad! Can you please provide an update on applications submitted in February.

We try to respond to people even as late as 2 am on various platforms during the day and at odd hours, but it is not enough due to the large numbers. We will continue to try our best. If you applied on February 18 and have yet to receive your passports, there is a problem somewhere. Did you drop copies of your old passports? Hi Susan, When booklets finally arrive, can those who urgently need booklets be allowed to please have same day delivery? It's only fair, since we'd be paying for it anyway. It makes a lot of sense to provide this service for those who desperately need it, considering these circumstances. I will be coming from Saskatoon to Ottawa in May and I need the passport before July because my passport expires in August. It's very expensive traveling to Ottawa from Saskatoon as a student and then have to go through the torture of waiting for the new passport while hoping you don't run into booklet shortages. Please let the High Commission kindly consider this. I'm a student. Travelling is expensive. Everything I do in Canada is tied to this passport renewal

Tim, I agree. We were doing that, but got a backlash from those who came earlier. That is where our production is still stuck in February. So now, we do not have same day service until we have a good number of booklets that can accommodate the backlog and people with urgent cases.

The email I received after booking my appointment asks that I come with: Payment slip and also Money order for applicable admin fees. Just want to be sure I understand what is required. The admin money order of $50CAD payable to the Nigeria High Commission is not for online. However, what you paid for online is the $106 USD to innovate1pay for your passport booklet. You need to print the receipt and other documents you filled online and come to Mission with all the hard copies including the money order for verification.

I just completed my 4-year degree; I need to apply for my post-grad work permit (Eligible for 3 years) but my passport expires next year (2023). So I have to renew my passport before applying for the permit to receive full validity. What would you advise given the booklet shortage?

I have about 180 days left to apply for the PGWP. I don't underestimate Nigeria anymore at a young age. I know it is possible the high commission won't get booklets for the next 180 days. You disclosed the last production date: Feb 21, it is April 26 today. So no booklet for almost two months. Wow! Also, you are doing amazing @ Susan. I know it is not easy being at the frontline for any embassy but especially Nigeria's. Thank you for being professional in your engagements with frustrated citizens.

If you decide not to follow through, it is up to you. We do not print booklets in Ottawa. You can apply for an Emergency Travel Certificate to go to Nigeria and renew your passport.

Take a look at the notification you got from Canada post, you will find the address of the Canada Post office to pick up your document. It does not come directly to the Mission. Apparently you made a mistake on your address or you moved from the address on your return envelope.

However, remember to send it back with a cover note stating the date of your biometric exercise. And if I may suggest, since you guys have been posting here that no booklets why not make an alternative way of handling the renewal process by letting people hold on to their old passports till the new one is ready then ask them to send in the old passport for canceling before returning both the new and old to the applicant.

We do. When applicants come for their biometrics, we advise applicants to go with their passports and mail them back later if it is crucial to use them. And they have been doing that. However, it is not the best option because we have had challenges with how applicants send them in. So we do not see it as the best option. That is why we will not put up a notice. Those who have to take it back urgently can do so after the biometric exercise.

You can apply and come to capture for renewal. You can also take your old passport with you. However, we may not send you a notification when booklets are available. Your best bet is to follow our updates. When you see notification for your date, send your passport back to us so we can cancel and produce the new copy. We only cancel the old copy when we produce the new one.

My advice to anyone that cares to listen is go to Nigeria and renew your passport, if waiting for the High Commission, you will be messed up. They are liars and inconsiderate in service delivery. That is the reason an High Commission cannot be reach by phone. They lied my wife application was forwarded to Abuja, I contacted Abuja, was told Canada did not send any application for approval to them. Otherwise, they should state the date they did, up till now nobody replied me to confirm the date.. My wife was at the high Commission since 21st January, 2022. I repeat, from the ambassador to the cleaner, they don’t care about you, don’t get stranded by going to them for passport renewal. The stress and disappointment you will get are more than the money you will spend on flight to Nigeria. Now, I don’t know what to do regarding my wife’s passport. Just like the President at home, so also the people at the embassy—- so useless. I pity Nigeria.

Think about it - they don't produce the passport here. They depend on the team in Nigeria. They are only as good as what the guys at home offer. I think you should give this team some encouragement. In defence of the Embassy and Susan, I just have this to say about this passport booklet issue. The Nigerian embassy in Ottawa is not inefficient. Pre-Covid 2018/2019, I travelled to Ottawa to renew passports , got to the embassy at 9 and had the passport ready at about 11/12ish. Same day. I think the personnel here are also victims of whatever is happening back home and we should cut them some slack. This opinion might not be popular but even back home, my mum paid heavily and still waited months to get the passport. Let’s spread the word so people will know they can renew passports within 1 year before expiry. I thought it was 6months and I am also almost getting caught up in the urgency of getting a new passport. I’d say kudos to you Susan, doing your best to respond to everyone. From your responses, I believe if you had the booklets, everyone will be sorted. Keep doing the best you can and let’s hope people back home are wise enough to vote in good people in the coming year. These inefficiencies are a result of the corruption the present administration pretends they are fighting

Yes, apply for an Emergency Travel Certificate. You do not need an appointment. Follow the instructions on the website concerning ETC and mail your documents and money order to the Mission. It will be processed and sent back to you.

Well, the complaints are because of the lack of booklets. We don't produce booklets in Ottawa. Instead, we work with what we receive from Abuja. You can apply for your renewal in Ottawa. You have enough time before your expiration date. However, you can go to Nigeria to renew your passport. The choice is yours.

In the past? Where? Certainly not for a Nigerian passport. You have to come for biometric capture when renewing your passport. Please, apply for renewal, pick a date on the homepage and come for renewal: the earlier, the better.
