The High Commissioner of Nigeria to Canada, H.E. Adeyinka Asekun, held a meeting today at the Chancery with the principal of KnowledgeSquare, Mr Philip Adekunle, to resolve some of the challenges with the National Identification Number (NIN) to improve service delivery in Canada.

    I would like you to help me resolve this issue of collecting NIN numbers for the renewal of my international passport and immediate family members. I registered and made an appointment registration Saturday (22-04-23) at 272 Flodden Way along with my immediate family members. While my family members got their own done completely, I was unable to get mine completed as a result of the forgotten numbers of the BVN at that moment of registration. I later got back the BVN numbers that day and sent an email back to the generated email of the IQID registration number payments platform on that very day(22-4-23) and later follow up email on (24-4-23) respectively for an information update and collection of my NIN numbers. (IQID and notifications@calendly.com) to acknowledge my request and update my sent BVN numbers to the mail provided through payments, Surprisingly, no response on both sent emails and the call number associated with the IQID contact information telephone number, ringing and no response.     My name is Mr Mbata Chinwendu George. I was in Ottawa in April precisely April 3rd for passport renewal for my entire family comprising of myself, my wife ,my daughter and my son after going through the necessary steps as stated in the High Commission's web site. The process was very good only that our daughter had an issue with her NIN not matching the names on her passport as one name in her passport was not in her NIN which we did on a visit home in Nigeria in 2019. One of her names Chidera in her passport was not captured in the NIN. However, we were directed to a place in Ottawa where we went and did another NIN and I was told to follow it up in Nigeria so that it can be uploaded on the NIN system so the high commission could see it and process her 10 years passport and that, I did successfully. The problem is that while all of us have received our new 10 years passport my daughter has not got hers. We wish to travel back home in June and time is not on our side. Please help me. We want our children to know Nigeria and know that they have a beautiful country hence we try to visit every 2 or 3 years. Her name is Mbata Karen Chinenyenwa Chidera.

      Thanks for the lengthy explanation. Perhaps her passport is not ready yet. As you can see from your message, you all got yours. She will get hers before June. You can also call the office on Tuesday.

    It's been almost 6 months now and I've gone for recapture 3 times now. All I'm trying to do is fix a spelling error in my NIN. The knowledgesquare center is quite useless in getting the work done. So, kindly give me a solution or who I can contact to get the job done. Thank you.

      Unfortunately, Knowledgesquare is responsible for NIN, you have to go back to them. The Mission does not handle NIN.

    The Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa needs to stop referring Nigerians who want/need to do their NIN to Mr. Kola, one of the agent that acts on behalf of the NIN's office. He us an extremely unreliable and disgustingly rude man. He moved his office location from his baxter address, to his residence:-272 Flodden Way, Nepean ON K2G 7C9. I believe his license to conduct and act as a NIMC representative should be revoked immediately. Firstly he has his minor aged daughter-Aisha attending to customers alone from start to finish. He's NEVER there! Which is a good thing, because the young lady is very respectful that her obnoxious father. We visited their home to make an NIN for my adult Canadian daughter back on 26th August 2023, keep in mind, I'd already done mine with him over 2yrs ago. So his daughter said the NIN server was down and was not granting them access to generate and print NIN number for customers and that the issue has been pending for over a week and that NIMC-main hub was aware and working on it. Thst as soon as they've resolved and restored services, she will email us my daughter's NIN card. Absolutely nothing. After a week, I started calling her dad Mr. Kola's cell-(647)806-9150 majority of the time-99% he ignored calls and VM full; the odd time he picked, he told me they had informed NINMC about the problem with my daughter's NIN. Lo and behold, their was absolutely no problem with my daughter's NIN, he did absolutely nothing! I have a friend of mine who lives in Montreal QC, who needed her NIN done, booked her appointment, paid and was scheduled for an appointment on 16th September, whom I took to Mr. Kola, as she wasn't from Ottawa. On getting there after almost 10 minutes of buzzing the doorbell with no answer. I called him and told him we had an appointment, we were at his HM and no one is answering our doorbell. Minutes later, his daughter opened the door, let us in and apologized that she was fast asleep and didn't hear the bell. I asked the rude man what the update with my daughter's NIN card, he started shouting, Madame, we have reported the issue of your daughter's NIN to the main office, as soon as we hear back from them, we will notify you. I responded, haba Mr. Kola, are we fighting? Why are you shouting at me? He replied, "look Madame, I will hang up this call on you now, I have better things to do than to keep repeating myself to you." His daughter overheard our conversation and told me, "hello ma, please I can print out your daughter's NIN number now, the NIMC server has been restored. Please hang up the call with my dad" While the foolish man was still on the phone ranting... I did just that. After I'd hung up on the foolish man, I asked his daughter, why she had not sent my daughter's NIN to us as promised and I've been worried sick and calling her father, who had been unresponsive, she courteously apologized that she forgot and not only printed us my daughter's NIN card, which had been upgraded from when I did mine, she also sent us an email copy as backup. In summation, Mr. Kola's NIN license should be revoked. As he is an incompetent, unreliable and despicable man! Mr. Kola, I hope you get to read this, as I'd told you, you will be held accountable for your despicable actions! Mrs Adedayo Owolabi.

    Hello, Please I came for passport renewal on Feb 15, 2023. I had an issue with the name of my NIN, I was told to do change of name, but everything had been sorted out now and the name matches. I did biometrics and everything. How do I contact the high commission to issue my passport now.

    I have 4 kids , they all did NIN same day in Nigeria , now we are here in Canada to renew passport, they said one is invalid .. where and how do they want me to resolve this issue?, my challange ia that they study permit will Expire next week that was why I sent last month for capturing and biometrics, what do I do now .         I am having a similar issue as Christopher. I was in Nigeria and got my NIN for the first time, last December. When I got. back to the US to start applying for passport renewal it gave me the "NIN invalid" error message. I was in Nigeria this past week, took my number to another NIN office and they verified that it was a functioning number. Please can you advise me on what is going on? Why my number works in Nigeria but using it to apply for passport renewal, it gives me an error message. Thank you. Also, if I go to an NIN office in the US, do I have to pay? My son went earlier this year and he had to pay $60 to get his number.

    Hello, I went into the embassy on the 29th of April for the biometrics portion of my Nigerian passport renewal. 3 weeks from that date would be the 20th of May which is this Monday coming. I'm worried because, on the application tracking page, the last thing ticked is application received.

    Hello Nigerian High Commission Ottawa. I applied for a new passport due to a name change (marriage) and I did my biometric capturing about 5 weeks ago. The application form I filled out online carries my updated surname and this was auto generated when I put in my NIN, and I also submitted my NIN verified page. I have been tracking my application and I noticed the application has been pending NIN verification. I am wondering why my application is still pending NIN verification when all information in the NIN is up to date and correct? And everywhere I have used my NIN, it displays the correct bio data. I also noticed that the confirmation slip given to me after capture contains bio data information on my old passport instead of carrying the updated information on my application form and NIN data page. I have attached the screenshots from the tracking, NIN data page and Application form to the email I sent to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca of which I am yet to get a reply. I will be glad if you can treat this issue as urgent. Thanks.

I have reached out to the NIN office and they told me my NIN has been sent out to Nigeria for validation and should start working in two weeks.         The issue is not with the NIN though. My NIN is verified and working. It works if I select "Within Nigeria". Stop giving this same response to everyone and do something about this issue. This is affecting all Nigerians in diaspora. The Nigerian Immigration Services is a failure and this is just telling. Many Nigerians are stranded and cannot get their passports renewed because we come from such a disappointing country. We have every right to have our passports renewed and you guys should be working with NIS and NIMC to get this issue resolved but no. It's easier to continue lying.
