We posted on our latest news section on our website and all our social media platforms over a year now that all Nigerians in the Diaspora are eligible to renew their passports a year ahead of the expiry date. I have written more than ten emails and one reply got. I have applied for passport renewal, paid, and booked an appointment, the available date is November, whereas my trip is next month. Since the past two weeks that the Portuguese embassy official asked me to contact my embassy for an emergency renewal, I have not been able to reach out to anyone via the telephone, let alone through emails at our embassy's office. I am a journalist, with over 10 years of experience, currently on a Ph.D. study leave, doing two programs, one of which necessitates my next month's trip in a group, to Portugal. I wonder if our good embassy is short staff or not getting enough reimbursement from the ministry back home. We can always help you through our reportage so that you can be fully equipped. We can always assist in getting your concern addressed by the new Immigration chief, acting comptroller general of immigration, respected Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola. I think this will go farther in making the embassy has a desk that will at least pick up a call that is very salient and prompt, maybe, after sending a text message sort of, and the official in charge read and attest that it needs urgent attention, then picks calls and advise, or after reading text/email, view that it is redirection or link provision, as the case may be, will kindly do so accordingly. I understand the influx of people on daily bases, but there must be change, and change is possible. HOPE 2023. Change is possible. You can imagine for the past two weeks, I have needed to talk to someone for guidance and urgent assistance, all to no avail. Taking the American embassy as an example, if you apply for a visa and get a date in 2024, there is an open window that says if you need it urgently, apply for expedited visa application. This is the kind of help I need. I couldn't find any column that says, apply for expedited passport renewal on your official site, the reason I kept sending emails is that maybe someone will magnanimously stumble on my email and kindly be of help. Alas! It's been so pathetic, I don't know what to do. I just need help.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, with the new enhanced validity passport, we do not have expedited processing. That is why it is not on the website. We do have videos and messages on the website explaining why. It takes two-4weeks to process the passport now. And in a situation where there is a problem with an applicant's NIN, it takes up to two months to process because it has to go to Abuja for correction. I will send your message to one of the staff about the need for a closer date of appointment. You also need to pick the November date on the NIS website, else even if you get a closer date, the immigration officers cannot access your data in Ottawa.

I applied for my international passport renewal on June 21, 2023 for 10 years booklet. Unfortunately, after making my payment was only when I found the next available date was well beyond my passport expiry date of November 4, 2023. I’m in Canada for a medical emergency for my son but must leave by July 16, 2023 due to visa rules of 6 months maximum stay. I’ll however return immediately to continue with the care. Sorry to hear that. The only solution is to bring him back for recapture. Please use your old appointment letter and the child's application details to get into the Mission and explain to the security officer why you came back. You can also print the email you got and come with it. Please ensure not to come on a public holiday or weekend.

Canada post must have misplaced it. If your tracking says sent, then they probably sent it to a wrong address. You have to apply again for a lost case and also ask Canada post for a compensation.

Use your old appointment letter issued for January. Explain to the Security man, he will admit you. However, if you did not get the letter from the Nigeria Immigration Service website, you need to get one, else your records will not register on the Immigration system.

Hello, Please I am reaching out to you as I am yet to receive my new passport till date after capturing on Friday, March 24, 2023. Admittedly I made a mistake in the application and entered my date of birth incorrectly as April 3, 1987 instead of July 3, 1987. On the day of capturing, they had mentioned this was going to be corrected after being sent to the Abuja office. But on May 24, 2023, I received a call from +16132360521 and spoke to a lady called Linda. She requested that I need to make a new application for my passport application, that the former one has expired. The application for a passport renewal was made on May 1, 2022 and capturing was done in the Nigerian High Commission, Ottawa on March 24, 2023. But I am confused how come I am being asked to make a new application when I came in for capturing on March 24, 2023 which is over a month before May 1, 2023 when the payment was said to be expired. I am surprised why I am being asked to make a new payment when the former was valid when I completed the application process which included capturing. Please can you let me know the status of the passport renewal and when I can receive it in the mail as this is over 5 months now with no response after numerous emails sent to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca. It looks as if I am being ignored and this is not fair. Please read before posting questions. You must also pick a date from the website of the Nigeria Immigration Service even if it is 2024. The officers need it for processing. The letter from generalinquiries is only for admission to the passport office.

Unfortunately, I dont know how you will handle that because the email you got from generalinquiries is to allow you entrance to the Mission, but the Immigration officers need your original appointment letter from the Immigration website for your biometric exercise. So you may have to send an email to the NIS to ask for the letter. We have no control over their website so we cant access it. Their email addresses are on their website and they respond to applicants.

Unfortunately, there is no provision for rescheduling on the website of the Nigeria Immigration Service. Please send an email to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca requesting for a new date.

Hello, I did biometrics for my new passport two weeks ago, on tracking the application on the NIS site, it shows passport has been issued/collected ? Does this implies that the passport has been mailed ? Please confirm. Thank you.

It means it has been processed and about to be mailed out. So attempt tracking in a few days.
