Yes, you can but first, contact your airline. Let them know you are traveling with an expired passport and that your final destination is Nigeria.

Currently the Nigerian visa options for Canadians are for 3 and 6 months duration. Is it possible for me to request for a 1 year visa ? . Best Regards

I am not sure of that. Please, contact VFS Global. They are responsible for visa applications.

Hello, I came to the Embassy with my son on February 13, 2023 for his passport renewal. Up until now May 15, 2023 the said passport have still not been issued. My son’s name is Mycah Imla Emovon. Please can someone or anyone tell us what the precise issue is. We have had to forego a family vacation even with flight tickets bought because we have not received his passport. Do I have to come back physically to the Embassy to get an update or a reason why his passport is not ready after 3 whole months?

Hello, hi; So I have paid and submitted my visa application and after payment was prompt to book an appointment…which I did. I had to reschedule my appointment but the system wouldn’t let me so as suggested on the website, I waited 24hours after missed appointment to reschedule but still I am unable to because the statement keeps stating that I already have an appointment (which was missed). I called vfs global and apparently they are not taking any in person appointments and I should have been able to book one. I was told I would have to mail it in however according to the representative it will take minimum 30days to process and I would need the visa in 3 weeks for which the rep stated they do not think I will receive it by then. And so I would like to cancel my application and request a refund and was told to contact the Nigerian immigration services in Ottawa however there is no contact number to reach the immigration services. How do I go about cancelling and requesting a refund for my application? Thank you.

Hi, We were given 6 months appointment for passport RENEWAL. We started the process in June/2023 and were given Dec/ 2023 appointment. We traveled to Ottawa to plead for an earlier appointment and we were turned back. We sent an email to request an earlier appointment as directed by Ottawa and our request was declined. We were advised to apply for travel document with our plane ticket. Is this now the norm? I feel six months is a very long time to wait. Thank you

Hope you got your passport.

Hi, I'm reaching out regarding my son, LEO , who visited the Nigerian embassy on March 1, 2024, for passport renewal and capturing. Unfortunately, there was a mismatch, in his year of birth in the NIN. His application number is 19484412 and presence is 1000170922828928 The NIN office has modified his year of birth from 2018 to 2019. I have sent email to the Nigerian high commission in Ottawa and the new NIN slip but we have not receive the new passport, it has been months, can you please help out? Thank you so much.

Give it more time.

How long does it take to process a Nigerian visa? On the VFS Global website, it says 15 to 20 working days, but after applying, I noticed a delay. When I called, I was told to wait for the full 30 business days. I had already booked my ticket close to the presumed processing time I saw on the VFS Global website. I'm frustrated and would like to know the actual processing time for a Nigerian visa and if Nigeria embassy can be of help to me, to look into the matter so I won't loose my ticket 😢
Abu SusanSays
Kindly refer to VFS Global for information about the status. They are a separate entity outside the High Commission.
KolawoleSays
I did ask them, and their response was that my wife's visa application has been dispatched from the Ottawa Visa Application Center, Canada, to the local consulate in Ottawa for processing. Once the embassy finishes the process, I will receive an email notification. However, the application has already been in process for 20 business days as stated on their website. When I called VFS Global, I was told to wait for 30 business days, which will be too late for our plans since she will be leaving on the 1st of June. I am worried about her visa status.
Abu SusanSays
I see. I will follow -up with our office on Tuesday.
KolawoleSays
I haven't received any updates yet regarding my wife's visa being processed at the local consulate, and she needs to fly next Saturday. This is really unfair and frustrating. Despite applying a month earlier before her departure

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. Here is my wife's application tracking number: NGA/YOW/180424/0001/01.

Good day, Madam. Is there any progress on my wife's application? We are concerned that she might receive the visa too late to attend the family gathering we have planned. Pls we urgently need your assistance with this situation, as she is scheduled to travel by June 1st which is next week. Thank you for ur time
KolawoleSays
Have been waiting, but no update yet. She plans to fly next week.🥺

Hello Sir/ Ma, Greetings! I wanted to enquire about the processing of an Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC) for my minor child. He is Nigerian by descent but Canadian-born. He has never owned a Nigerian Passport but has an NIN Slip. On the website, a copy of the Nigerian passport bio page or birth certificate from the National Population is required as part of the documents required to process the ETC. Can I submit my Nigerian Bio-data page (expired) and my birth certificate, my husband’s Nigerian Bio-data page along with my minor child’s Canadian Birth Certificate, NIN Slip and Canadian Passport with the application? Also, how early in advance can the ETC application be submitted for a trip in September? Please advise. I look forward to a favourable response. Thank you! Best regards, Sandy
Abu SusanSays
Yes to all your suggestions. It takes 10 business days to process an ETC. The earlier you send it, the better.

Hello. I applied for a visitor's visa to visit my fiance and the father of my child. We booked our tickets for departure on July 23, 2024. I applied for my visiting visa (F6A) in early June. VFS Global's visa processing centre states my application was dispatched to the High Commission on June 26, 2024 and we have yet to receive any information regarding my application - reference number NGA/YOW/250624/0001/01. I am wondering if I am going to receive my passport and visa in time or if I will need to rebook my flight, accommodation, and travel insurance as well.

Hello Susan Abu, I hope you are well. I put in a visa application for a minor (17 months) via VFS courier and it arrived at the High Commission on the 5th July, 2024. Till date I have been back and forth on the phone with VFS and they are unable to provide any information on this application including an application reference number. All I have is an application number which is 6126654. Can you kindly assist? This is the fourth week of processing with no feedback or way to track the application. I look forward to your assistance.

Hello, I applied to renew my passport early this month. I came for my biometrics on the 21st of June 2024 and I am yet to get a response. From my confirmation slip, it says I should be expecting it by July 22nd, 2024 but we are in August now. Why is this happening? It's not fair. I also sent a couple of emails, but still nothing. I am an international student and I need to extend my study permit. I beg you I need a response or please send my passport. Thank you

Hello, myself and two others submitted our applications and they arrived at the High Commissions on July 15th. Our trip is on August 19th, and we have not heard anything back yet. The VFS website says it takes 15-20 days to process applications. We called and spoke with customer service and they said it takes 30 BUSINESS DAYS and NOT 15-20 BUSINESS DAYS as stated in the WEBSITE. They said they cannot provide us with any more information about our applications or anything. If this is the case then we will be unable to make our trip. Is the WEBSITE PROVIDING INACCURATE INFORMATION? Is it 15-20 BUSINESS DAYS or 30 BUSINESS DAYS?
