Starting March 8, Nigerians will no longer have to come to our offices for their biometric, they can do it from the comfort of their homes and have their passports delivered to them. – Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior
Audrey OkaforSays
Hi @Abu Susan, any idea on when you will update the passport requirements on your website? Also, please what will happen to people like us who booked appointment since July 2023 and appointment date is April 12 2024? We are a family of 3: Father, mother (me) and 4year old. Father is renewal, 4year old is first issue. Me, my matter is special: I'm renewing with marital name and insertion of middle name. I paid for change of data and exchanged several emails with you and NIS Abuja and you agreed through email that i should come to Ottawa. When we tried to book, no appointment till after December 31 2023. We decided to book April 12 2024 and email you to change our date to September 1 2023, which you graciously approved. We got there on September 1 only for you guys to say our appointment did not drop. It was the worst day of my life. I spoke with a lady that I thought was you but the person said she is not you. She insisted that we have to leave and come another day for capturing and for me, my docs will be sent to Abuja (when we return for capturing) by you guys but i will follow up myself. Now from the minister's interview I dont know how changes will affect me and my family when diaspora phase starts on February 8. I wrote you guys after our failed trip to your office, pleading for you to check if our appointment has dropped so we can come and capture, you promised to revert but you never did. The online page that has details of my change of data which i paid for is broken. Please help us check if our appointments are available and when we can come to ottawa, because after all we suffered, if the changes do not favour us, that will be disastrous. Thank you.

Hello Audrey, It is unfortunate that this happened to you. The centralization of the system has also impacted on our operations in Ottawa. We usually help by giving you a closer date from Ottawa as requested by you, however, we have no control if the original date on the immigration site fails to drop. That was why you could not be captured when you got to the Mission. The officers needs the date you got from the immigration site to drop for them to go ahead with the process. That said. I will forward your message to the immigration officer to see what can be done.
Abu SusanSays
So sorry to hear about this, Audrey. You Know we work according to directives from Abuja The change about appointments came from Abuja and they could not capture you on September 1 because your names did appear on the system. That is what they meant by your names didn't drop. I will check with the Immigration unit for updates for you.

Thank you Abu Susan.

Hi Susan, I am not able to book an appointment on the website currently. I keep getting "application Error" message. With this new update that we might not need to come into the office to get captured for biometrics, do you have any idea when this will take effect? Do we wait for more updates or keep trying to book an appointment on the website? please advise. Thank you
Abu SusanSays
I have no idea Kelechi. We will post updates when we receive information from the Ministry of Interior.

Unfortunately, the calendar is centralized and we at the High Commission cannot change it.
Abu SusanSays
Walk-ins are not allowed. You have to pick a date from the Nigeria Immigration calendar.

Hello, I’m still waiting to hear back regarding my family of 4’s passport application. Our capture date was February 15. 2023, it’s been almost a year and I’ve sent several emails as I don’t live in Ottawa. Please what do I do? Any information will be helpful. Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
Please, go to the immigration website and track the status of your passports.

Hi @Abu Susan. Great to hear about the coming changes to passport application process. My question is as follows: my family have biometrics appointments already for 4th March 2024. In view of the impending change of process, kindly confirm these appointments are still valid and we can firm up our arrangement to travel down to Ottawa on this date for capture. Thanks.
Abu SusanSays
We cannot comment on it until it becomes effective.

Hello Sir/Madam, My husband and I have been on the matter of his passport renewal since November 2023, and we urgently need it for our work permit extension. His passport data was captured four weeks ago, and his NIN issue was resolved two weeks ago. However, the case still reads 'pending for NIN verification', though he has sent emails about this. While I understand the volume of cases you are handling, I kindly request your consideration. His company has been pressuring him to submit this document in the last two months considering the criticality of the time required for processing the application. As his dependent, this is crucial for our job and continued stay in Canada. Please, all we need is just his passport data page for the work permit extension to be submitted. We look forward to your assistance. Thank you.

Hello, Good afternoon, I am trying to renew my passports but i can't book earlier than June 13th from the NIS website. Please what other options do I have? Thank you
Abu SusanSays
Unfortunately, you have to stay with the date you have. The Calendar is centralized. We have no control over it. You can also send an email to the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Prince-James EmenonyeSays
Does this apply to passport Renewals for Nigerians in Canada Can I or should I wait till then?
Abu SusanSays
Yes

Hello My name is Anene Peter and i came to the office at Ottawa on January 17 to renew my passport only to be told i have NIN issues which i resolved on that same day. I have been sending emails that i have resolved the NIN issues but no positive response keeps coming since January till now, and when i track the status of my application, it doesn't check the NIN stage. Please kindly advise on what to do please. I am anticipating the passport to extend my work permit. Thank you.

Hello, My passport renewal date is in June 2024, do i have to come to Ottawa for capturing. My current passport has my NIN number in it and it expires Jan 2025. I am curious because of the news regarding the new passport renewal measures starting March 8.
Abu SusanSays
You have to come to the High Commission for your biometric exercise.

Send your updated NIN to generalinquiries@nigeriahcottawa.ca

Sorry about that. If three out of 4 have been processed, it means there is an NIN Issue with the fourth one. And if you used one envelope for all of you, we cannot mail the three passports.
