NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION, OTTAWA

Congratulations Ambassador Abba Zanna-Kawu on your elevation as the new Acting High Commissioner at the Nigeria High Commission. Wishing you a fruitful tenue ahead and pray God to grant you the insights and wisdom to turn things around for us here in Canada. I wish to have your personal email address or, mobile number to enable me to discuss or share my thoughts on the following concerns I observed as a concerned Nigerian when I visited the consulate office in Ottawa: 1. Help ensure Nigerians coming to the embassy have a workable or better-improved queuing system instead of visitors standing for hours before they are attended to, provision of a well-equipped waiting room, and improve on waiting time to be attended to by the consulate staff. It's really embarrassing to see our people waiting outside the gate under the cold weather, rain, and sun just to be attended to by their own consulate. This doesn't speak well of us to both Canadians or other nationals who see how and manner we are treated. 2. The cars packing lots behind the consulate building depict exactly what's obtaining back home in Nigeria, muddy, unkept with grasses, and slippery. This needs to either be paved, tared, or paved and properly marked for efficient ease of motoring and parking needs of all visitors. 3. There should be 24/7 dedicated and accessible lines and email addresses for both visitors and Nigerians residing in Canada and possibly a liaison + transit accommodations facility in Toronto where many Nigerians currently reside and a major entry point into Canada. This is necessary for ease to reach out - in case of any emergency needs of all Nigerians - either residing in Toronto or transiting via Toronto or other parts of Canada and beyond.

1. Please, note that the car park you mentioned in your commentary does not belong to the Nigeria High Commission. It is for the occupants of the high- rise building in front of it. Applicant get a chance to park there lately because current occupants do not have vehicles. The Mission does not have parking space outside the building. What is available is the City of Ottawa's hourly street parking and paid parking on the other side across Metcalfe Street. 2. Please, note that the opening time at the Mission is 9am. That is when the doors are opened to the public. Most applicants you see cueing outside earlier than that prefer to make it to the Mission and wait. Unfortunate, no one comes in at those times so the gates are closed. Thank you.
