The Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, is STILL CLOSED.
We will announce the resumption date shortly on the website and our social media platforms. We are here to serve you.
Thank you.
AdaobiSays
Good morning, Just a question regarding the following announcement, if by chance we have appointment dates already scheduled that fall between the re-opening date (when it is released) would we still be able to come in for that? Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
Good day, Adaobi, That is the Mission's reopening date right? YES.
AdaobiSays
Yes, the mission's reopening date. Thank you!
TobySays
Hi, I had an appointment on the day the lockdown started in Ontario. For those in similar situation, will the embassy also give them priority?
Abu SusanSays
Toby, Yes, you are also at the top of our scale. We would post the details here shortly and send out communication via email and social media platforms. Thank you.
MODUPE BOLANLE BELLOSays
Good Morning, My Son had a scheduled appointment for April 13, 2021 for his Passport Renewal but due to the Ontario Lockdown, he was unable to keep the appointment. I saw your response to Toby above stating that he would be top of your scale and that you would send communication via mail which my Son is yet to receive. He has also sent a mail to that effect. He needs his Passport to apply for Post Graduate Work Permit
Abu SusanSays
Hello Modupe, Tell him to please wait patiently for the mail. Apart from the mail, we would also post the information on the news section of the website. Thank you.
Adegboyega D.Says
Good evening, My situation is a bit different however, I will want to ask if we also get priority. I came to Canada from the US in December to renew my passport and your office was very helpful. At this time, my wife's passport is almost expiring and we need to return to the US thus, we need a passport with a longer duration than she has at this time. I also have a son whom I will love to get his passport at this time. Do we qualify for the urgent case? Regards.
Abu SusanSays
I'm not sure about your case since you came from the US. Since the US has opened up, perhaps the Consulate would be able to renew your wife's and your son's passport. However, I will ask the immigration officer to see if it is possible to attend to you.
Jacob EmhenyaSays
Hi Abu Susan, I would like to clear up some question I have, which is from this announcement. Does this mean that people whose passports are not yet expired(same as permits) would be attended to at a later date? and also, I rescheduled another appointment due to the issues of the last few weeks of lockdown, does that mean i can cancel it since I could be attended to for my earlier date (May 18th).
Abu SusanSays
Jacob, Yes, we are attending to people in categories. However, those whose appointment dates are within the period of the resumption date would be attended to as well. We are also planning to work on weekends to clear up the backlog. Do not cancel what you have now. We will get back to you about the next step. Thanks.
FolakeSays
Hello, I appreciate this initiative. For those of us whose status hasn't expired as yet but will expire in a very short time (2 months in my case), what are our options? Where do we fall on the priority ladder? Kindly consider this group also in your re-opening schedule. Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
That's a valid question, Folake, We hope to clear the backlog before then. The Intervention exercise has taken care of many applicants.
Otiamhe A.E.Says
Good day Susan, so I have sent an email of my documents as required but I had booked an appointment which got cancelled months back, do I have to rebook this appointment as the only available dates are in August and my documents expire in July. I’m really worried right now and need some answers please.
Abu SusanSays
Otiamhe, If you have submitted your documents, you don't have to worry about the dates. We will get back to you about the date and time to come to the Mission
KayceeySays
Hi, I booked an appointment for my daughter with my name .. can I still come for the appointment
Abu SusanSays
Hello Kayceey, Please give me more details.
KayceeySays
Hi, Do we need to pay the application fee and service charge using money order??
Abu SusanSays
The application to Innovate is online with a visa card. The $50 administrative fee is in money order payable to the Nigeria High Commission Ottawa.
ZenSays
Hi, My passport is expiring next year but for my work permit the immigration officer requires an updated passport that has at least 3 years before it expires. Would I be part of the priority? because I have 2 weeks left for me to apply for the work permit or I won't be able to anymore. Also I paid for my passport renewal.
Abu SusanSays
Zen, Send in your documents immediately. We are almost done with the collation process for that category.
Eniola AdemuyiwaSays
Hi Good afternoon!! I submitted an application to renew my passport for July 30,2021 in Canada but unfortunately I had to travel back to Nigeria on May 28,2021 for an emergency and my passport expired on June 2,2021. Now I’m expected to be back to Canada latest June 28, 2021 and I’m trying to renew my passport and I’ve been unable to renew my passport while in Nigeria because I was told I need to cancel the first application I applied for July 30,2021. Do you have any advice on how I can go about canceling my application scheduled for July 30,2021 in Ottawa. Thank you very much.
Abu SusanSays
Eniola, I will get in touch with the immigration officers about this and get back to you here or via email for the next step.
Kelechi NeneSays
Would the intervention still be happening in Atlantic canada even though Ontario is opening now?
Abu SusanSays
Yes, Kelechi, We would liaise with the Nigerian Canadian Associations in the region and get back to you soon.
AlfredSays
Hello, For someone like me whose status has not expired yet but will expire soon (in less than 2 weeks), where do I fall in the priority ladder? What are the options available to me? Thank you so much for your hard work, I know these are challenging times for everyone.
WendySays
Same with me. Could you please let me know if you’ve been responded to?
Abu SusanSays
Hi Wendy, You can read the response to Alfred. Thanks.
AlfredSays
Hi Abu Susan, I do not see a response from you. Maybe there is a glitch?
MichaelSays
Hello, thanks for your update. Please when exactly is the embassy re-opening? When should we expect a new appointment date for missed sessions during lockdown? Traveling to Ottawa requires time to plan.
Aaron ObiSays
HI Abu Susan, I scheduled an appointment for may 17th but due to the lockdown, I wasn't attended to. Due to this announcement above, what would happen for people like me?
Abu SusanSays
Aaron, We are making arrangements for people in your category. You will hear from us shortly. Thanks for your patience.
AtinukeSays

Also I want to apply for a fresh passport for my kids Is it possible I do all this together as it stated in the requirement for kids passport that the parent data page is to be included in the document
Abu SusanSays
Atinuke, You can do all of them. Please, read the instructions for each of them as stipulated on the website and supply all the necessary information and payment.
SamSays
Hello Abu My passport expires August 8 It is out of validity at the moment As most travle requires more than 90days to expiry Please I would like a new passport How can I go about this? Thank you
Abu SusanSays
Hello Sam, Visit the website and apply for a Passport renewal. Provide the required documents and pay the fees for renewal as stipulated on the website. You can also pick a date for your in-person appointment for biometric capture. Please, keep all your copies of evidence of payment and bring them with you on the day of your interview.
SonitaSays
Hi, I have an appointment for June 17, can I still come in cos my visa is expiring next week and I need to get that renewed.
Abu SusanSays
Sonita, We are yet to open up to the public. We will post the resumption date here soon. Thanks.
Omo JesuSays
Today is June 14. Everywhere in Ontario is in business mood. Why has the Nigerian embassy not yet opened to the public? Why please? Business returned since last Friday. What is so peculiar to the black race ? Who do we offend as a nation?
Abu SusanSays
Omo, Just be patient a bit.
NdiSays
I really need to know when the embassy will open. I need to make plans in order to fly out to the embassy. My appointment is at the end of this week (June 18th) and I need to give enough notice at work. I know you said we will hear about the date of opening soon but shouldn’t the embassy have communicated the opening date by now? Especially seeing that retail stores are already operating and a whole embassy is still closed.
Abu SusanSays
Ndi, You will hear from the Mission before the end of the weekend. Thanks for your patience.
NdiSays
I said my appointment is on Friday June 18th. What will be the point of me hearing before the end of the weekend after my appointment date has passed?
AnisereSays
It is absolutely ridiculous that after 6 months of not providing service, you still do not have any reopening plan for your citizens. A whole country’s consulate closed for months, people are going out of status, no information apart from the generic nonsense. This is so unfair, your office is the only non-essential consulate in Canada- other embassies were open and your office also attended to people with “connection”. And before you refer me to the meeting with the VP, ask yourself if it makes sense. All you people do is frustrate people, are we the only ones? Why can’t you do things properly? I’m the whole of Canada, we have just one and you’ve been closed for 6 months for citizens services. When will you start attending to people? God will frustrate you people the way you frustrate yourself. Yes, we are all adults and you should respect yourself. USELESS
Abu SusanSays
Anisere, Okay, thank you.
AnisereSays
You people are very useless.
Abu SusanSays
Anisere, Okay, thank you.
MariaSays
Hello Abu, We have responded with the documents requested for over a week now if I am not mistaken. Can you please provide us an update on The Consular resumption date and the roll out for people already in the queue with previous appointment dates, so we can start making adequate plans? Thanks
OBIORA EGBUNONUSays
Please I scheduled an appointment for my passport interview today June 15th. My passport has expired which I applied for a new one since March. Please my Dad passed on and I need to be in Nigeria in July. Please what should I do? Under which priority group do I belong?
Abu SusanSays
Obiora, Condolences about your Dad. This is under "Urgent situation". Send your documents and a cover note to the email mentioned in the notice for verification.
OBIORASays
Thank you Abu Susan. I will send the required documents as you requested
Abu SusanSays
Thanks, Obiora.
TayoSays
It just does not make sense that most businesses are open but the Nigeria embassy is taking its time and putting people’s study permit, work permit and other important permits at risk. This is so unprofessional and unfair to citizens. Only one consulate in the whole of Canada. People have to travel and spend extra money to travel to Ottawa and the service in the consulate is very poor. Please do better. We would send emails, it takes forever to hear back from the consulate, it is really frustrating.
Abu SusanSays
Our apologies, Tayo, We would do better. Thanks.
NonsoSays
Hello Abu, I understand the Calgary passport intervention will be happening this coming weekend. Unfortunately the NCAC already had a documents collection exercise last weekend, which I missed due to payment problems that took Innovate1 services one week to resolve. I have since been trying to reach members of the NCAC executive by email to arrange to collect my documents, but received no response. My question is, how can the NHC help ensure that I and my family can take advantage of this weekend's intervention in Calgary rather than have to travel to Ottawa? Please advise... Thank you.
John IyekeSays
I had an appointment on the 8th of June and I have no idea if I would still be able to get my passport done because am a student and school is starting September and I need to get my study permit done. Thanks
Abu SusanSays
Hi John, Send in your documents for verification.
John IyekeSays
I already did that and I got a confirmation email saying the documents have been received and I would be contacted as soon as possible
NonsoSays
Good morning Abu, Could you please respond to my question above. Have a good day.
DeleSays
Hello Susan, I'm quite confused as to what priority means here. I recently completed my graduate studies, and I'm eligible for a 3-year post-graduate work permit. I got a job with July 5 start date, and I'm required to submit proof of my work permit a week before the start date of the job. I already sent out a mail, and attached the necessary documents to the appropriate email address, however, I was told that those with an expired permit will be contacted first. How am I not in the category of those with an expired permit? PS: The study permit I attached has an expiry date of December 2021, but I completed my studies in April 2021, which in a way renders my study permit invalid.
Abu SusanSays
Hello Dele, I will get in touch with the team to see what can be done for you.
DeleSays
Thank you, Susan. I'll be expecting your message soon.
DeleSays
Hi Susan, I will like to follow on my previous message as I am yet to receive any confirmation email. Kindly assist as I need this passport to obtain my post-graduate work permit. Thank you.

When should we be expecting an announcement in regards to the embassy opening for all? Will you also be attending to those that has got an appointment date regardless of if their passport isn't expired, and also for those that had their appointments canceled because of the lockdown? We need time to plan, so it'd be nice to get an estimated time of opening. Thank you.
Abu SusanSays
Hi Whithney, Below is the latest news. It is also on the website. Please be informed that the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa, would reopen to the public on June 23, 2021, following the commencement of Ontario’s stage 1 of the three-step plan to safely and gradually lift public health measures based on ongoing province-wide vaccination progress. However, the Mission would attend to applicants according to a systematic plan in line with COVID-19 Protocols. The first set of applicants would be – 1. Students and workers whose study and work permits have expired. 2. Applicants who cannot renew their Permanent residence cards due to lack of a valid Nigerian passport. 3. Applicants whose permits would expire within the next three months. Applicants in these categories would receive notice of dates and time to come to the Nigeria High Commission, Ottawa. Nigerians with appointments scheduled and confirmed before the lockdown from March to April would be next in line. The immigration team would work throughout the week, including weekends, to clear up the backlog. We hope to continue with those scheduled for May and June to get back to our regular calendar. Anyone who shows up at the Nigeria High Commission without an appointment would not be allowed into the building. We will do all we can to minimize the adverse impact of the Covid -19 pandemic on the well-being of our citizens. Regards. The Nigeria High Commission Ottawa.
Daniel A KumapayiSays
Hello, I have a series of questions related to my passport application 1. I would like confirmation on my appointment date, which is July 20, 2021 at 12pm EST. Is that correct? (Name: Daniel Kumapayi) 2. I paid for my passport application back in March 2020, but have been unable to come to Canada for my passport renewal due to COVID-19. Will it still be valid due to this rare circumstance or will I need to pay for a new application? 3. Where can I find my interview letter or is the email I received in the past my interview letter? 4. Is it possible to get my passport the same day or will it need to be mailed to me (I am driving from Michigan to Canada) 5. How can I obtain a national envelope since I live outside of Canada? Thanks in advance!
Abu SusanSays
Daniel, The documents you printed from your application are still valid. You cannot get your passport the same day at the moment, pending when we clear the backlog. Read the latest news below. Good evening, I need to renew a passport for my minor daughter as we have an international flight to Mexico! Unfortunately, it has less than 6months of validity and she does not have any other means of identification! We have an appointment for the 28th of July which was the earliest date we could get and fly out on the 29th! I would appreciate any reassurance for the same-day service. Can some of us with minor children be considered for priority, please? Thank u
